Field Trip to The Apple Farm

The Children of Montessori del Mar and Sprouts Montessori Children's House all carpooled over to Philo in November to visit The Apple Farm.

The Children and parents were given a tour of the amazing grounds, including a walk around the farm, garden and orchard. There were goats, chickens, pigs, sheep and horses. Then everyone sampled some apples and had a little fresh pressed apple cider.

After a nice walk and a few treats, we settled down in the warm sun on the back patio and enjoyed a nice lunch with friends.

Moving Up

Every year, to celebrate each child's completion of their grade level, Montessori del Mar holds a "Moving Up" Ceremony. Each student receives a certificate and a red rose. After these are all handed out, the Sprout Preschool graduates are announced and introduced. Then each child stands up and hands out a certificate of Appreciation to another student, recognizing them for being a “good friend” or a “funny guy.”

The Great Lessons Play

The children of Montessori del Mar are so lucky to have Teacher Lorry, who not only teaches and guides them during the day at the Learning Center, but also has many years of on-stage and acting experience. Lorry has been working with the Children all year on "The Great Lessons Play" and they were so excited to present it to parents during the last week of school.

Music Recital

Montessori del Mar children were so excited for family and friends to join them at a local coffee house for a music recital last month.

This production was put on by our incredible and much loved music teacher, Myra. This amazing lady not only teaches music and instructs the children at the Learning Center, she also gives private lessons to several students after class.

Music is a huge part of daily life at Montessori del Mar. The children sing songs of peace, thankfulness and friendship. They learn songs in different languages and sing each day before washing their hands for lunch.

It was a full house the night of the concert.

For the grand finale, the children sang and played a round of "Love is a Little Word" with Myra on the piano.

Our Healthy Classroom

Food preparation is part of the life skills curriculum at Montessori del Mar and this involves care of self and the environment. The children learn about nutritious, healthy foods throughout the year, including preparation, serving and cleaning-up of the daily snack.

Parents are asked to pack minimally processed foods for lunch and anything packaged or containing refined sugar is not welcome in the classroom. The lunchboxes around the classrooms are filled with vegetables, sandwiches fruit and salads.

Parents are asked to pack only healthy, balanced meals in reusable containers that the child can manipulate by him or herself. The learning Center strives for a zero waste lunch.

All snacks during the day are parent contributed and include organic nuts, fruits and vegetables.

We take pride in our healthy classroom!
